Sustainable dyeing and functionalization of jute fabric with a Chinese sumac gall-derived gallotannin using eco-friendly mordanting agents

Natural fiber-made apparel dyed with natural dyes is drawing consumer attention because of the possible toxic and health hazards associated fabric synthetic dyes. However, many textile products available in market could pose a risk use heavy metals as dye-complexing agent. In this work, jute fabrics were multi-functionalized gallotannin (GT), using ferrous sulfate (FeSO4), calcium chloride (CaCl2), aluminum (AlCl3) non-toxic mordanting The shades produced other physicochemical properties GT-dyed compared treated GT copper (CuSO4), common It was found that various agents navy blue brown tonal changes along quite good colorfastness to washing. concentration agents, types treatment pH affected shade fabrics. surface resistivity reduced from 235 × 1010 Ω/sq for control 6.7 AlCl3 agent, slightly higher than exhibited by CuSO4 mordant. FeSO4 CaCl2 showed excellent antioxidant activity, even at lowest dosage applied.
